Events

Thanksgiving and Hope's Birthday and Christmas and New Year's happened and I didn't post one picture. So here is an overload of some things we did. For Thanksgiving I put myself in charge of the sweet potatoes, my mom's broiler apparently heats up really fast and I may or may not have started a large fire in her oven. My children still remind me often that I started  a fire at Grandma's. We went to see the lights on Temple Square. It was freezing! But we had to show Hope the pink lights she had been talking about for weeks.
On our little girl's birthday, I took the kids to the library where they played with the lego table and then they got to go to McDonald's, she couldn't have been happier. My mom made her a Minnie Mouse cake and she still talks about her Minnie Mouse birthday daily!
This year my kids were so excited about everything to do with Christmas

My dad tried to teach my son that when you point a gun at someone you say "Go to Hell" but instead Rhett would point his gun at his Grandpa and say "Go to Heaven, Grandpa!"

My dad hates any form of wrapping paper. Of course my mom always wraps his gifts. So for Christmas he made sure he wrapped her gift up as much as possible. He put it in a big box, then duct taped it, then wrapped it with tin foil and put tape all around the tin foil. He really wanted me to take a picture of her opening it.

Our biggest event happened this past weekend. Rhett woke up with what I thought was just the normal stomach flu, but he didn't stop throwing up. So the next morning I took him to the ER. It took 5 people to draw a very small amount of blood from him. He was so severely dehydrated that even when they would get a needle in a vein the blood would stop flowing and they would have to find another vein to stick. He was stuck 6 times before it worked. And then they had to get get an IV in him. By then all of his good veins were blown. We were then told all his labs came back crazy! His white blood cell count was 3 times higher then it should be, His electrolytes were out of control and his kidneys were barely functioning. If things didn't improve, then he would be on a helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital. We were in the ER from 11:00-5:00 with Rhett hooked up to an IV the entire time and through all of this our ER staff was awesome! For long stretches of time Rhett was the only patient. Nurses and aides wanted to do anything and everything for us and we never had to wait around for the doctor or anyone to help us. There are good things about living in small towns. Rhett would fall asleep then wake up super agitated trying to pull his IV out and then 10 minutes later be back to sleep. I decided he became a little delirious due to his extreme dehydration. Luckily Rhett improved just slightly so we were admitted to the hospital in Roosevelt. When the ER nurse told the floor nurses how much fluid they gave our little guy they were shocked. We spent 2 nights at the hospital before Rhett's numbers improved enough and he started eating. They decided Rhett needed to sleep so they they didn't wake him up to get his vitals at all that first night which was so nice! Each morning though he woke up with a new needle being inserted in his arm to draw more blood. Their best phlebotomist put herself in charge of drawing blood from him. She told me she didn't want some rookie near him. I was so grateful. By the end Rhett didn't want to leave the hospital. He got to watch tv all day long, The staff gave him new toys, a blanket and they even bought him a giant balloon. Plus he got all the apple juice and popsicles he could ever want! At the hospital they had to measure his urine. When we got home he kept asking us if he could still measure it because he thought it was fun. To be honest it was a very close call with our little man. The second day in the hospital he woke up asking me all sorts of questions about what happened the day before as if he didn't remember at all what had happened. On Friday morning his body was limp, his hands looked like skeletons, his eyes were sunken in and he could hardly move. The next two days he was very lethargic, he rarely spoke, and he wouldn't eat. On Sunday morning however they brought him breakfast he grabbed a sausage and shoved it in his mouth, I knew then that we would be going home that day. When we brought him home on Sunday he was ready to start a pillow fight. No one could be happier then Hope to have her brother home. She would cry so hard when we told her she couldn't stay at the hospital with Rhett. Hope was so excited to talk to him on the phone and she was the only one he would talk to on the phone. It was the greatest moment when all 4 of us walked out of the hospital together.
