Fat Tuesday, Nachos, and the Parade

So we went to Natchez for Fat Tuesday. Why yes down here we get Presidents' Day off and then we got Mardi Gras off as well. I love a good holiday where it doesn't matter what sin you commit because the next day is Ash Wednesday which starts Lent so what ever you did on Mardi Gras won't matter.
Anyway, we have always wanted to go to Natchez because when we were trekking across country a year and a half ago a man told us to drive through the town. The whole time I couldn't understand a word he was saying I finally said "wait, are you saying Nachos?!" I got really excited that there was actually a town in Mississippi named "Nachos". Spencer had to finally show me a map so I could see what exactly that man was saying. So every time I see a sign to Natchez I always yell out "Nachooooooooos!" just like in movie Nacho Libre.
On our way down, I told Rhett we were going to Nachos which meant for 2 hours on the way home he yelled "Nachoooooooooos". At one point Spencer said "Rhett, can you say Natchez?" "No daddy I don't say Natchez I only say Nachos."
The people in the town are very poor, but one time in history it was one of the wealthiest towns in the United States due to slavery. In the 40's they struck oil but when that was all done all the factories left as well leaving thousands without any jobs. So they rely on tourism to fund the town. As a tourist you go see the plantations. One house we saw looked like what you would picture the house and its yard to look like in Pride and Prejudice. Since they didn't want to see their slaves working but wanted them whenever they wanted they built in a secret hallway in between the hall which is where the slaves had to walk.
They were both so intense when "reading their books" This is how they looked with the same book for the first 45 minutes (Note: I'm sure y'all will love how Hope is holding her book. Why yes, she is holding it upside down!)
Then all of a sudden they BOTH really really needed to hold each other's hand

!
This is the Mississippi River, in back of us is where all the brothels were located back in the day
The weird hanging down things are called Spanish moss. Spencer loved the trees!
Massive Plantation! With 132 acres of land around it.
Why yes there was a sign saying don't go into the replicated Native American hut, it took some coaxing to get that boy out
And when he did come out he found this really big stick

A week before while Spencer was in Texas the kids and I went to our Mardi Gras Parade. Poor Rhett was pretty sick and I got mother of the year award since when we got home I realized he had a high fever.
