Life and Death

In the past month thoughts of life and death have been thrust on me; one my my closest friends brother took his own life at such a young age, a few days later Spencer's cousin attempted suicide, she is now in the slow process of recovering, this past week I was driving my kids to look at animals at a pet store and when I passed a car I saw a dead body shot up laying on the seat, and tonight I found out a great women we know has a few days left to live due to renal failure which could be one of the worst ways to die. All of these things are sad, can be hard to deal with, they leave me with not knowing how to help those who are most affected. They also leave me thinking how much our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to succeed in our journey.
Tonight we were privileged to see our friend Tina get baptized. Spencer was the first person who talked to Tina on her first time at church. During Sunday school that day I asked her if she knew Joseph Smith was a prophet, she immediately said she did so then I bluntly asked her when she was getting baptized and then said I would be happy to show her where the font was. Some how I didn't scare her off since she asked me to speak at her baptism. God has put so many things in Tina's life recently to lead her to her baptism. Her sister became a member a few years a go. She got hurt and had to go to a doctor who just happen to be LDS (that's a hard thing to come by in the state of Mississippi), he talked to her about the gospel and he was able to baptize her tonight. On Sunday Spencer will have the opportunity to confirm her a member. I guess sometimes it's ok to be blunt about the gospel. Tina has such great faith. Her friend came to her baptism, I told her friend that she's next and she said "oh I know." Tina then invited that friend to the Stake Relief Society Conference that will be held for several hours next week. Those two couldn't be more excited.
As I drove home I thought about the life and death experiences I've had recently. When I got home I watched my kids giggle with excitement when I told them they could have an Oreo (you must try Cookie Dough Oreo's. Life Changing!). Then as I was reading them a story they got on Rhett's bed and over and over and over again gave each other hugs. They giggled again and told each other they loved each other. Then they hugged and licked each others faces (when Hope gives kisses she sticks her tongue out and ends up licking you, Rhett thinks it's so funny so he licks her back). They sat on the bed, looked at each other and just giggled and giggled. And I thought this is what life is about.
Life is about going through trials, making covenants, giggling, and making sure those around us know we love them.
How I love being a mom. I am alone with my kids from when they wake up to when they go to sleep lately. It won't always be like this but for the moment it is. Some days it is so trying, but tonight watching them and taking it all in made it all worth it. And so here is to my two giggling kids who love super heroes (Rhett wants to be Wolverine when he grows up), so passionate about animals (Hope now puts herself to sleep since she has taken control of Rhett's stuffed dog), love putting their shoes on since that means they get to go outside even though it usually means we will go play in the parking lot and put rocks down the drain hole, they love anything to do with books and who will do anything for a piece of chocolate.
In between cars driving through the parking lot Rhett takes his car and races down the hill
On the way out the door to go to the pet store and look at animals we found this little guy. Rhett named it "Daddy Turtle" it was hiding under the stairs in front of our door. So we watched it walk around for a while, who needs a pet store when you have one at your door step!
First night in his big boy bed

We go puddle jumping a lot!

That tongue of hers will go straight into the water and lap it up. She loves being a dog!
Only in the south will you find a sign with a cage like this on the back of a truck

Reading

Like I said in my last post my kids like to "read" to each other. Click on the link below and you'll see what I mean.

Easter and other photos

Since I seem to only blog once a month now here is an overload of pictures
This year we went to 4 Easter Egg Hunts. Why do we go to many hunts because then we get to eat our children's candy!

My children have been terrified of going on the swings at the park. That day Hope walked me over to them and sat there laughing with her tongue hanging out the entire time.

A few weeks ago both of our kids sat in this chair and "read" stories to each other for a long time. Rhett would grab his sisters fingers and point at the characters in the books. It was awesome actually seeing them wanting to play with each other

She was so proud of herself getting the eggs all on her own. Hope just started walking last week (it was about time) it makes me so happy not to have to carry her around every where
