Things we learned from the "homeless man" and other happenings

The "Homeless Man"
To make a long story short Timothy "Griff"in stayed on our couch for the better part of two weeks. Rhett came to love him and most mornings would wake up and the first thing he would do was ask me if Griff was still sleeping.
We learned lots from this man:
1. Yes, our life is stressful right now, but it could be so much worse.
2. School is important so you don't have to go in the dumpster to find money.
3. The word of wisdom is a true commandment. Let's be honest... The man drinks a lot (but he didn't while he was at our apartment because we made it a rule).
4. If one leaves their food in a bag for weeks most likely maggots will hatch and your baby will want to play with them on the floor
5. Spencer and I love doing missionary work and feel like we need to do it more. Griff told us he felt his trials were so he could come closer to Jesus Christ. So of course this led into how the Book of Mormon is the number one way of coming closer to Christ. He ended up going with Spencer to the Priesthood session of General Conference. We probably won't see our friend get baptized while we are here, but planting seeds are good and one day Griff will be ready.

The Flamingo
On my walk this week, we came across a flamingo! We were there when the animal control lady pulled up and so we watched her put it in her truck. But the flamingo wasn't quite so pink any more it was more gray then anything. A few days later Spencer told me the Flamingo had been stolen from the zoo by a fraternity. They had killed my flamingo's friend at the zoo. When the animal control lady brought my flamingo back to the zoo, they had to put the poor bird down because of all of its injuries. So besides that the bird died, seeing a flamingo was pretty awesome!
"Meet the Mormons"
The Mormon movie randomly got to come to the theater here. I don't think the Baptists knew what was coming when the Mormons stormed the movie theater for opening night and sold out the showing. When the usher was taking the tickets that first night he kept saying "meet the parents" instead of "Meet the Mormons" (even after he was corrected, probably by several people including Spencer). Our family really liked the movie. Rhett especially loved all the football scenes. My favorite story was the last story with the mother who was 15 with a baby and they were homeless. You can't get much lower then that and yet she made it through. Made me feel like these people around me and some of my young women have a chance in this crazy world.
Standing
So yes, Hope is standing and really wants to walk. She can't stand on her own just yet, but pulls herself up on everything. Today sadly she discovered the trash can to pull herself up on.

And here are some random pictures just for fun
Rhett said Elmo needed a ride

In between General
conference we went for a walk. Rhett ran the whole way with his hat and sunglasses on while carrying Elmo

Last week Rhett had the stomach flu for 2 straight days. This is how he spent both those days.

So I lost my children one day and actually found them playing nice together

This is what happens when a 9 month old refuses to take a nap all day
