Adventures

We've had some adventures lately.
I made 200 origami butterflies, gave them to the zoo and they gave me 4 free passes to their Birthday Bash. That basically meant we got to see all the animals, pet and feed a sloth and ride the train as many times as we wanted. But people... it was 200 origami butterflies! There was so many late nights just folding paper, oh the things we do for our kids! 30 minutes after we got to the zoo it started raining which also meant most parents packed up and went home, meaning we never had to wait in line for the train or to feed the sloth and it wasn't crowded at all. They put the sloth on a fake branch and let the kids feed it a piece of a carrot. They gave Rhett the carrot to hold and he held it the entire time as he waited for his turn. When it was his turn to feed the sloth, he held the carrot out towards the sloth and then popped that carrot in his own mouth. The Zoo Keeper just didn't know what to do and laughed so hard. So they gave Rhett another carrot to feed the sloth and this time Rhett threw it at the branch the sloth was on. So I put it in the sloth's mouth. They have a petting zoo for little kids to pet sheep and pigs and goats. Now remember how it was raining? So the poop in the pen was all over us when we were done! Hope loved petting the pigs, and the biggest sheep and goat decided they loved Hope. They kept coming up to her and licking her face, she just giggled so hard.

On Mother's Day I wanted to go on a walk. So we started out on the paved walking trail by our house but soon we found an unpaved marked trail. We ended up seeing deer, lizards, a wood pecker and lots of flowers. However we didn't really know if the trail we were on would lead back to the paved trail so we could get back to our car. Two hours later it became very dark and magically we ended back at the trail we needed to be on to get home. Our walk to the car ended up with fireflies all around us, so amazing!

The big adventure we went on this past week was going on a swamp tour at the Honey Island Swamp. To be honest I thought we would get there and all the alligators would be sleeping or under water so we wouldn't see any. But we saw lots of alligators that swam right up to our boat (our guide was giving them hot dogs and marshmallows so maybe that's why they came right up to us, but that's just a guess). Rhett loved every minute of the boat ride, he loved going fast and seeing the animals and he continues to talk about going back on a boat. There was one time when the boat was going really fast and Rhett kept wanting to move around which made us nervous that he would fly out of the boat, so Spencer told him to fly like Iron Man. The next thing we knew Rhett launched himself on Spencer's legs, laid on his stomach, and put his arms out just like Iron Man then he began making sound effects to sound like the super hero. Hope loved watching the animals and she especially loved the bubbles in the water. But when the boat went fast it scared her a lot!

Poor little girl! They made her wear this life vest. It was obviously way too big on her and she did not want it on. I ended up taking it off way before I was supposed to, luckily our guide didn't say anything.

Alligators love marshmallows
This bird is called a snake bird. He has teeth and eats little alligators.

The water line on the trees was how high the water was just a few hours before we got there

Here are some other adventures we went on
Hope loves everything about shoes and I love everything about this picture!
Our kids have been really into coloring and painting lately. After nap time we usually have art time for a good hour and a half.

We went to Old Navy and Rhett kept holding all the mannequin hands. When he held this girl's hand there was a couple that was leaving the store, Rhett moved and the lady screamed and then her husband started laughing so hard "we thought your son was a mannequin too, we had no idea he was a real boy since he was being so still!"
